The space

Step inside and the house opens up. Original terrazzo floors run cool underfoot, vaulted ceilings give the main living area room to breathe, and big windows pull the canal view right into the kitchen and living room. It's the kind of layout that works whether you're hosting a slow morning coffee for six or spreading out with a book while someone else cooks.
Three bedrooms sleep six in real beds. No air mattresses, no sleeper sofas, no awkward conversations about who got stuck with the worst spot. The full kitchen is set up for actual cooking, not just reheating takeout, and the Wi-Fi is fast enough to stream, work, or video call without anyone in the house complaining.
Out back is where most of the trip will happen. The heated pool overlooks the canal, the deck has space for dining, lounging, or just watching boats drift by, and the water itself is one of the quiet perks of this location. There are no fixed bridges between the canal and the Atlantic, which means if you're bringing or renting a boat, you've got open access to the ocean without clearance issues. Even if you're not a boater, it makes for a steady, peaceful parade of sailboats and yachts heading out and coming home.
The neighborhood stays quiet day and night. No through traffic, no late-night noise, just the occasional sound of a boat motor or a neighbor's dog. It's the kind of quiet that makes you sleep better than you do at home.

The neighbourhood

Pull onto the street and the noise drops. Palm shadows stretch across the pavement, a heron stands patiently in someone's yard, and somewhere down the canal you can hear the soft clink of a sailboat's rigging. Gills Isles is one of those east Fort Lauderdale pockets that locals quietly hope stays under the radar. It's a residential canal community where neighbors wave, mornings are slow, and the loudest sound is usually a boat motor easing out toward the Intracoastal.
The practical stuff is just as good. You're roughly 10 minutes from Fort Lauderdale Beach, 12 from the restaurants and shops on Las Olas Boulevard, and 13 from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. That's close enough that late flights and early departures aren't a headache. Downtown is a short drive when you want the energy of it, Port Everglades is right there for cruise departures, and grocery stores, coffee shops, and casual restaurants are all within a five-minute radius for the in-between moments.
But the best part is that you don't have to go anywhere. Most days, you'll find yourself pushing errands to tomorrow, lingering on the deck a little longer, and taking the long way back from wherever you went. Gills Isles has that effect. Easy in, easy out, and very hard to leave.

What a beautiful home and such an accommodating host! Our group felt right at home from the moment we arrived. The house was exactly as pictured; clean, spacious, and very comfortable. The pool was the perfect place to relax and cool off during the hot afternoons. The neighborhood was quiet and peaceful with friendly neighbors, and the backyard truly felt like our own private oasis. We absolutely loved our stay and would happily come back again and again. Thank you, Courtney, for such a wonderful experience!

Accessibility at Canal House

This is a private house rather than a hotel, and it has not been adapted for accessibility. There is no ramp, there are no grab bars in the bathrooms, and there is no roll in shower. We would rather tell you that here than have you find out on arrival.
