About the home's age
Sol y Sombra is about 100 years old, and it has the character to show for it, along with a few quirks. Older homes can carry a faint musty or "old house" smell, especially after rain or when the AC has been off for a while. We clean thoroughly between every stay and run the AC and dehumidifier, but please know this is a historic home, not new construction.
Florida living
This is South Florida. From roughly May through October it's hot, humid, and rainy, and that humidity finds its way indoors no matter what. Keeping windows and doors closed and the AC running helps a lot. Bugs are also part of life here: you may see the occasional lizard, ant, or palmetto bug (a large Florida cockroach), especially after heavy rain. The home is treated by a pest control service on a regular schedule, and if anything bothers you during your stay, message us and we'll take care of it.
